From a standstill with engine running, apply the parking brake firmly, put the car in 'Reverse' and then in 'Drive'
Do you notice any 'clunks' from the drivetrain?

Now gently depress the accelerator while in Drive. Note any delay between your pressure on the accelerator pedal and the cars movement. This would indicate slipping clutches, worn bands etc.

Does the brake hold the car from moving?
